About the Society

Background

Bangladesh Society for Puja and Culture Inc is a community based non-profit organisation established in 1996 under the Associations Incorporation Act 1984. The main objective of the Society is to provide a platform for its members to practice cultural and religious activities within the community and promote awareness to the wider multi-cultural Australian society.

In early 1995, a few young members felt the need for such a platform for the small community of Bangladeshi Hindu residing in Sydney and its surrounding. They started celebrating Saraswati and Durga Puja, and regular community gatherings. This has formed the basis of formation of the Society with the motto "Working together for our culture and values".

The Society is run by an executive committee of 11 members, elected each year as per the Constitution of the Society.

In addition to sporting, cultural and religious activities, the Society runs a community school for language, literature, music and dance.
