Dipayan is no longer with us

29 October 2007

We inform you with great sadness and sorrow that our love, affection, good wishes and blessings could not lastly save beloved Dipayan. On 29 October 2007 morning at 4:55am he had his last breath on his mum's lap at the Prince of Wales Hospital. His friend and relative Mr Bidhan Chakraborty, who selflessly stood beside Dipayan since his illness, was present at his bed-side as well at the time. Dipayan had been battling with cancer since May 2007 and his condition suddenly deteriorated in last week. Dipayan was released from the hospital in the week before 19 August 2007 and was under close observations. But realising the severe conditions, he was re-admitted to the Hospital and had his last breath there.

On 30 October 2007 at 2:45pm his body will be brought to the Rockwood Crematorium for cremation. For us to say the final goodbye, following Hindu rituals, please be sharp on time and at the following address:

West Chapel
Rockwood Crematorium
Memorial Dr (best via Weeroona Rd, off Centenary Dr)
ROCKWOOD NSW 2141

Harinam Sankirtan will run continuously, as will be final words from those who were close to Dipayan. Finally, a Purohit will complete the last rituals.

On 27 & 28 October 2007 a number of the Executive Committee members, Board members of the CPCL Board and the members of the community at large went to the Hospital to give him a final visit.

Following talks with Dipayan’s mother and his local guardian Mr Bidhan Chakraborty, pre-arrangements were made for any eventualities.

With Diapayan’s personal friends and relatives, we all are sad and sorry. The Executive Committee shares its sadness with you all and prays to God for Dipayan's eternal peace, as well as give strengths to his mother to bear this untimely loss.

Thank you for Donations

You might be aware that on 19 August 2007 the Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Society for Puja & Culture Inc handed over a cheque for $4,290.00 and cash $65.00 to Dipayan Choudhury. The amount was collected by many volunteers who thankfully responded to the Society’s request. During this time, Dipayan’s mother was present beside him with a few members of the Executive Committee and the community. More money was handed over in recent days.

The Society is grateful to all those members of the Society and the community at large including many non-Bangladeshi kind-hearted individuals for their generous support. The Society can only say ‘Thank you’ to all.

Durga Puja Festival 2007 Celebrated Over Two Days

22 October 2007

The Bangladesh Society for Puja & Culture Inc. (BSPC) has celebrated Durga Puja over two days. On last Friday (19 October) and Saturday (20 October) the Society celebrated the Festival at the Granville Town Hall. In the past the celebration used to run over one day only because this event hardly matched with Tithi.

On Friday evening, a huge number of devotees attended the Astomi Puja. Since the Puja coincided with the ‘Tithi’, there was a great sense of Bhakti and auspiciousness in the minds of the devotees. Mrs Ratan Hort coordinated the organizing of the materials for worship and Puja. Dinner was served afterwards.

On Saturday, the Puja started at 8:30 am. Puja was performed by a Purohit Sri Kamal Chakraborty, who came from Bangladesh. Kids Painting/Drawing started at 12:00. Anjali was offered three times, followed by Prosadom and lunch. Lunch was cooked by Dr Sudhir Lodh, Mr Sajal Das and Mr Sadip Guha and coordinated by Dr Narayan Das and Mr Litu Podder.

After the lunch, the Puja Talk was held. In this session Dr Sudhir Lodh (CPCL Director) gave a brief speech. The VIP guests of the day Hon Julie Owens MP, Federal Member for Parramatta; Hon David Borger MP, Local Member for Granville and Clr Julia Finn representing the Lord Mayor of Parramatta also gave short speeches.

Following this event was the Puja Quiz. A very popular event scholarly coordinated and presented by Dr Vincent Gomes.

After this was the mass participated event, Dhoop Aarati. This year, one additional component was the Aarati with the rhythm of a real Dhaak and played by many devotees. Aarati was coordinated by Mr Swapan Saha Roy.

Afternoon Tea was served with Sweets and Payesh. Dr Ashutosh Barai coordinated this with the contribution from many families. This was followed by the Kids cultural program Ha-Za-Ba-Ra-La. It was an excellent demonstration of continuous improvements in Kids’ performance. Tabla was played by Mr Debashish Dutta.

The next item was a well-presented Giti Alekhya, ‘Mahisashur Bodh’. Written and Directed by Mr Nirmal Chakraborty, this was a master piece and demonstration of our new generation kids performing extremely well. Dr Amal Chakraborty, the Cultural Secretary, coordinated this with assistance from Mr Nirmal Chowdhury, Mr Nirmal Paul, Mr Pradip Saha, Mrs Mekhla Chakraborty, Mr Sukhdev Saha and many others tirelessly helped the program.

Raffle Draw was the final item. This program was coordinated by Dr Ratan Lal Kundu. Barrister Nirmalya Talukder from Royal City Solicitors, Barrister Sirajul Haque from M S Haque & Associates , Mr Pankaj Rajbonshi from Astha Home Loans and Mr Lutfur Rahman Shaon from Shadesh Barta were the sponsors. Many kids assisted in the ticket sales.

In the end, a simple dinner was served and everybody enjoyed the dinner.

As usual, BSPC’s newsletter Nibedan was published with extended features and was published by Dr Bikash Ghosh.

Another special feature of the event was the appearance of the BTV Magazine presenter famous Hanif Sanket at the Puja Mandap. Accompanied with him were Andrew Kishore, Nati and Nakul Biswas.

Most importantly, this year there was a great deal of interest in the devotees to talk about the CPCL’s initiative on the establishment of Centre for Puja & Culture.

Above all, there was a spontaneous volunteering and help from members and devotees in the oraganising and running of the Festival. The Vice President Dr Santos Roy, General Secretary Mr Sushovan Das and President Dr Swapan Paul thanked everybody for their generous help and support.

Save Dipayon's Life!

14 July 2007

Dear Member,

Namaskar! The Executive Committee of Bangladesh Society for Puja & Culture Inc is requesting you to extend your hands of cooperation and support for the cancer-battling Bangladeshi student, Dipayon Choudhury.

Dipayon has a misfortune! He came to study in Sydney but one year later he lost his father. Recently, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and is under extensive treatment at the Royal Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. His mother is coming from Bangladesh to Sydney to give him moral support.

Although Dipayon has private medical insurance the policy only covers limited items, thus leaving him with a large ‘gap’ amount to pay. A couple of individuals and institutions have come forward to assist him but still he needs considerable additional financial support.

On this humanitarian ground the Executive Committee has decided to appeal to all the members of the Society and its supporters and well wishers to help save Dipayon’s life!

The Executive Committee will remain grateful for your kind help and support.

Thank you.
