Three Singers, One Mission; Mission Successful

Three Singers

The only mission of Sumona Bardhan, Sabbir Chowdhury and Haimanti Rakshit Mann was to give a good time to Sydney’s music-lovers. The mission is successful.

On Saturday, 7 June 2008 Sydney’s music-lovers started filling the Polish Club (Ashfield) Concert Hall to enjoy the much waited music concert of the above three vocalists.

With Ajoy Dasgupta and Jhumur Das as the MCs opening the show, the artists were given a cordial reception by offering flower bouquet by a music-devoted kid, Auntora Chowdhury.

The First song of the evening was obviously a Tagore song and it was well presented by Sumona Bardhan. After this song Dr Swapan Paul (President) welcomed the audience and then began the music extravaganza.

In the above order of the three vocalists they offered their best in two rounds of about 40-min each, with a dinner break in the middle- a total of 4.30hrs of marathon music. The vocalists were sincerely supported by Ruptanu Das and Saif (Keyborad), Shchocho (Guitar), Basu and Avijit Barua (Tabla) and Asim Das (Octopad).

Sumona’s purist voice and Sabbir’s raga-dominated vocal created an authentic environment of music-and-music. However, nothing would have been complete without Haimanti. The moment she started singing her first song, the audience thought,” that’s it.” And she kept going till 11:00pm.

A Special Issue of Nibedan was also published on the occasion, by Dr Bikash Ghosh.

Except slight adjustment problem with the sound system, the evening would be remembered by many for long time. The Sound was managed by Mishu Rahman and Nirmal Chowdhury.

Dr Narayan Das(Coordinator) gave the final thanks.

After this event the Bangladesh Society for Puja & Culture Inc has demonstrated that in a row of Manna Dey and Mitali Mukherjee’s most successful concerts in Sydney, now added another one. The Society is pleased that it well and truly kept its promises that its selections of vocalists, the program organisisng and creation of authentic music environments for the vocalists to perform and the audience to enjoy is unique and Sydney’s best.

The Concert was organized to also raise funds for establishing the Centre for Puja & Culture in Sydney.

Well done Bangladesh Society for Puja & Culture; congratulations to its members and well-wishers.
